Ashley is ready to ring in the New Year with Miles, her partner of 12 years. However, when she turns the corner, her whole world is turned upside down.

It's sentencing day for Miles and tensions are high as Ashley, Rainey and Trish wait for the judge's decision. When the gavel comes down, Ashley's day is set on a path towards destruction.

With his dad gone, Sean is beginning to spiral out. When a tough parenting moment is upon Ashley, Rainey and the turner family try to introduce her to the "Rule of Three."

Ashley and Rainey start bonding with some of Miles' old weed. Earl's parole officers pays him a visit and reveals a new parole requirement. Janelle's dates don't go so well.

Ashley bails on a visit with Miles. Janelle convinces Ashley to join her on a trip to the beach and Trish and Jacque invite themselves along. Earl has his first job interview.

Ashley's struggle with how to tell Sean about Miles' incarceration is at a peak, so she enlists the Miles in her head to figure out how to tell him. Nancy enlists the help of Janelle and Earl to discuss Sean's blackness.

Sean has a bad day, so the family goes bowling to try and cheer him up. Meanwhile, Trish and Jacque figure out how to finally be their own bosses. Earl finally gets his burrito.

Ashley brings the whole family to visitation to see Miles. Earl heads off to start his first day of work at the ports but is hit with red light special when he gets back to the docks.

A chance encounter with Too $hort at a spa day leads to a crazy night out at Trish's old strip club; Earl struggles with his PTSD while on a date; Trish is jealous that Jacque is spending so much time with Cuddie.

When Sean says the N-word during their first family weekend visit, Ashley and Miles explain why it's wrong; Rainey confesses she doesn't believe in God anymore after Nancy brings her to her church support group.

Ashley, Trish, Janelle and Earl celebrate Halloween on Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk. Trish pretends to be blind to get a disabled pass to cut lines. Jacque introduces Cuddie to her family at the annual costume party.

Teena takes Ashley to a local bar to cut loose and dance, and a drunk Ashley makes a horrible mistake. Janelle's ex-husband, Mustafa, surprises her from Bali to try and win her back.
