Encouraged by Pepper Potts and assisted by Jim Rhodes, the 16-year-old genius begins to investigate the suspicious activities carried out by Obadiah Stane, the new C.E.O. of Stark Industries. But an even deadlier foe is waiting... the Mandarin.

The Mandarin has trouble with his step-son, Gene Khan, while trying to retrieve the rings. Tony Stark as Iron Man battles one of his inventions, that Obadiah transformed into a weapon. The Mandarin steals the ring of Obadiah, and fights Iron Man. Back in the Mandarin's lair it is revealed that Gene Khan has become the Mandarin.

Now Tony must survive Rhona's D.A.T.s (short for Deadly Aptitude Test), free Pepper, Rhodey, Happy, and Whitney, and get to his Iron Man armor to defeat Rhona and Andy.

After the events involving the Iron Monger armor, Obadiah Stane begins to have it mass-produced. With footage discovered by Tony Stark and Roberta Rhodes which involved his deal with Ghost, Obadiah Stane is fired by the Chairman of the Board. Unfortunately, a comment from Tony accidentally reveals Iron Man's real identity to Obadiah.
