A Fine Romance - Episode Guide

Laura and Mike attend a display of ethnic masks since they have nothing else to do, and wind up at a restaurant where Laura loses a contact lens again.

Helen and Phil help Laura buy a new dress for a special dinner for Laura's new love interest. But when Ben tells Laura he is married, Mike happens by to pick up the pieces with his usual charm.

When Laura realises Mike's business is failing, she sets out to help him shore up his capital and his morale. Mike winds up rescuing the business himself without exactly coming up a winner.

Mike's van, and where he can park it for the night in Laura's neighborhood, gets in the way of moving their relationship to a higher plane. Sensing the stall, Helen and Phil decide they need Mike and Laura to move on.

Mike and Laura are unsure what kind of relationship they have. Mike calls off a lunch date.

Laura is keen to help Mike in his office.

To combat her terror of the dentist, Laura is given sedatives that leave her lightheaded and flirtatious. Her behavior towards Mike results in a comic misunderstanding that threatens to worsen an already awkward situation.

Mike gets jealous when a business associate of Laura's appears to have more than business in mind. Helen takes over Mike's office work, but she proves too glamorous for the job.

One Sunday, Laura longs for an adventure, but one after another her schemes fall flat. Then Harry arrives and suggests they all go out to dinner - in France.

In the process of furnishing their new shared flat, Mike learns how little faith Laura has in their future together. As Mike and Laura reach a new low in their relationship, Phil and Helen arrive with good news.

Mike makes a rather bad first impression on Laura's parents, who then change their opinion of him after Laura tells them about Mike's unfortunate childhood.

Laura and Mike are about to host their first dinner party when they must rush Charlie to the emergency room.

While Charlie convalesces, Mike struggles to run the business single-handedly but refuses to replace Charlie with someone younger. While lending moral support to her pregnant sister, Laura finds herself thinking about having a family, too.

Mike prepares to interview applicants for a new landscaping assistant to replace Charlie. Helen and Phil are setting up a nursery. Laura decides that she too would like a baby, but the problem is Mike doesn't.

Laura continues the "baby" argument with Mike, and her erratic behavior escalates.

Months have passed. Helen and Phil now have a baby boy. Mike's landscaping business is doing well; but, Laura is back in England having now run away from her boyfriend in Brussels and is again upsetting the lives of everyone from whom she ran in the first place.

Thinking that Laura is in trouble, Mike flies to Brussels to find her. Helen and Phil are beside themselves with frustration at Laura's insensitivity.

Laura decides it is time to move from Helen and Phil's. She goes to Mike's apartment to retrieve the things that she left and starts in with her usual psychotic attitude upon finding Mike's new, younger girlfriend in residence.

Upset that Mike now seems to be going out with Elaine, Laura goes to spend the weekend with her parents, Tom and Alice, in the hopes that they can make some sense of the relationship. However, Mike and Elaine quarrel because she realises that he still has feelings for Laura.

Laura goes hunting for a new flat and Mike insists on going along. Wilfred is being intimidated by his former neighbor who is now a client of the landscaping firm. Terry trades clients with Wilfred which only leads to more trouble. Laura and Mike decide to try and rekindle their romance.

It is resolved that Laura will move back into the apartment and Mike will move out. Mike's attempt to ask Laura a very important question is continually interrupted.

Mike and Laura are more stunned than thrilled about their decision, and the fuss Laura's family makes doesn't help. When the farmhouse slips out of their grasp, the old despair seems poised to take over.
