Ratings Roundup Week of March 19 2017

Basketball, competitions and Empire led the week as the NCAA tourney continued on CBS. The Voice and Dancing with the Stars led for their networks and Empire reassured FOX it could hold on to its winter audience.

CBS made renewal announcements last week for most of its current schedule. Of the remaining programs in question, Criminal Minds, Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders and Great Indoors should get renewal nods as well once details are finalized. At the other end, 2 Broke Girls and The Odd Couple both squeaked renewals last year, but ratings for both have been mediocre at best this season, chances are low either show will manage another lucky break.

Dancing with the Stars premiered on ABC and won the week for the network, starting about where it ended last fall. Grey's Anatomy and Scandal also did well for the week, though both were low compared to previous weeks. The Catch held steady, however its numbers were not great. Time After Time fell another two tenths last week and cancellation is probable.

The Voice continued to dominate NBC ratings last week posting solid numbers for both nights. Trial & Error improved over its premiere as it gained viewers in both new episodes aired. If it can hold where it is, the show should get a second season. Taken dropped to a new low, while The Blacklist: Redemption held at its low.

FOX Wednesday night continued to lead the network as Empire roared back into the top spot and scored higher than its last aired episode in December. Shots Fired opened Wednesday with good numbers, off just a smidge from where Lethal Weapon scored in the same slot. Making History and Kicking and Screaming maintained their numbers from the previous week, whether or not that's enough for a second season remains to be seen.

The Flash continued to lead TheCW as it crossed over with Supergirl. The Originals gained slightly from its premier, however TheCW has a nasty habit of canceling shows at the seventy episode mark if the program isn't performing well. The Originals' episode count is currently at sixty-eight.

Final renewal news inches closer every week. NBC, ABC and FOX have not made any major announcements one way or the other for the majority of their schedules. Are you confident your favorites will get another season?
