Ratings Roundup Week of April 23, 2017

FOX wrapped three programs last week and saw the Spring return of another. Gotham returned with its "Heroes Rise" arc and took second place behind Empire for the network. APB, Rosewood and Kicking and Screaming all ended last week and chances are that was the last hurrah for all of them. Conspicuously absent from the schedule was You the Jury, it appears the reality show is gone after only two episodes as repeats of Lethal Weapon are scheduled in the time slot for at least the next two weeks.

TheCW finally ran new episodes last week and The Flash returned to the top spot as a result. Riverdale remained at its usual low and while the program was renewed, don't be surprised if it's pushed off the Fall schedule in favor of opening up space for new shows.

No real surprises last week on ABC. Grey's Anatomy led for the network even though its numbers were down. Agents of SHIELD lost a bit while Once Upon A Time gained a bit, and renewal for both is still a question. The Catch held steady but chances are it won't see another season.

CBS gave viewers a sneak peek at 48 Hours: NCIS, a planned summer series detailing the work of the real Naval Criminal Investigative Service. Meanwhile, the continued silence on a renewal announcement for The Great Indoors could mean something behind the scenes has affected if the program gets another season; the ratings have been positive for the freshman series, so the lack of any announcement is strange to say the least.

NBC premiered another comedy series last week. Great News received good numbers for both episodes the question now will be can it hold on to that audience over the next six weeks as the network airs back-to-back episodes. Dick Wolf shows once again topped out the week for scripted series'. After the fire department, police department, hospitals and the judicial system, what's left in Chicago to turn into another winning series for the network?

We will know later today or early tomorrow morning what resolution, if any, the WGA and the AMPTP have reached in terms of a new contract for writers. If there is a strike expect any mass renewal announcements from FOX, ABC and NBC in particular to be delayed and fall schedule announcements for all of the networks will also be put on hold if the strike lasts more than a few weeks.
