Ratings Roundup Week of December 31, 2017

Happy New Year! Last week saw mid-season premieres in several networks and the return of many others from the short holiday break.

New Year's Eve telecasts topped the ratings for ABC last week, while reruns filled the schedule as well. Ten Days in the Valley closed out with a whimper with back-to-back episodes. ABC also formally canceled The Mayor, repeats of Modern Family plugged the schedule hole for now, No word on when the remaining episodes will air. The Bachelor and Child Support premiered last week. The Bachelor's premiere was actually the lowest first episode for the show. ABC also announced its mid-season schedule with new shows Deception, For The People, the re-launched Roseanne, and several others all starting in March.

CBS announced Young Sheldon was picked up for a second season last week, surprising absolutely no one with the decision. It is the first of The Eye's rookie shows to get good renewal news. The Amazing Race premiered last week with some of it's best numbers, easily topping where it ended last season. SEAL Team dropped a couple of tenths from where it was before Christmas. Hawaii Five-0 jumped a tenth and Mom also saw a nice ratings bump after the Christmas break.

NBC has a few last chances to clean up with NFL ratings, and the Wild Card game gave the Peacock Network a healthy boost. Ellen's Game of Games had two solid episodes last week as well. NBC's regular Thursday night lineup was back anchored by Superstore and Will & Grace. Great News, however while better than where it ended before Christmas is unlikely to see another season.

FOX premiered three new programs last week.9-1-1 had a huge premiere last week. The second best premiere rating after The Orville. The X-Files also started a new season with roughly half the ratings numbers it had last year. It will be interesting to see if it can pick up some of the lost viewers. LA to Vegas opened strong, with some of the best numbers FOX has seen in that time slot for awhile. FOX also announced The Gifted would be back for a second season, there's still some juice to be had from comic book shows after all.

The CW ran repeats all last week, except for one show, Valor dropped a tenth from its usual number. The CW did announce mid-season premiere dates last week, and Dynasty was pushed off to Friday night, not a strong vote of confidence from the network. Upcoming premieres for new shows: Black Lightning starts next week, January 16 and Life Sentence will start March 7.

Where are your favorites after the Christmas break?

It was a weird decision, so much so that I double checked how many episodes had aired since it also earned a three episode extension. Not sure if ABC will use the remaining episodes as schedule filler during things like the Olympics, hold them to summer, or what.

What a bummer about The Mayor. Too bad they didn't let all the remaining episodes air instead of putting on stupid Modern Family in its place.
