Ratings Roundup Week of January 13, 2019

FOX had a premiere, a finale, and a huge NFL overrun boost last week. The overrun gave the entire Sunday night lineup a nice bump that carried all the way to the finale of Rel. Even with the help, however, Rel is most likely done. The network premiered The Passage last week. The horror thriller opened with good numbers, it can afford to slip a little and still be renewed. The Orville and Lethal Weapon were both steady, assuming they hold where they are, both should be renewed.

The CW premiered Roswell, New Mexico last week. The reimaged version of the UPN series, Roswell, opened with only middling numbers. The Flash, Riverdale, and Supernatural all slipped a tenth from where they were before the holiday break. All American is likely done. By rights, Dynasty should be cancelled as well.

ABC had a workmanlike week last week with no real surprises. The Bachelor gained two tenths, while Schooled lost two. The comedy series should be fine assuming it doesn't lose much more. Grey's Anatomy reclaimed the top spot, while The Connors lost a tenth. The Rookie and Speechless both gained a tenth, but it may be too little, too late to save either show at this point.

CBS wrapped Happy Together last week. Ratings for the comedy series were never bad, but with an overcrowded half-hour schedule, the series may not make a second season. Fans will need to wait and see how a few other shows do first. Speaking of, Fam lost three tenths from its premiere, it will need to stop the slide if it wants to see Fall of 2019. The Neighborhood, is safe for another year as is God Friended Me. On the drama side, new-comers FBI and Magnum PI are safe bets for season two renewal. Hawaii Five-0 is also safe. (Start the betting now if the reboot lasts longer than the original. The Jack Lord version lasted twelve seasons). MacGyver should be safe, but with the looming departure of George Eads, it will be interesting to see if the ratings fall off a cliff as a result.

NBC saw the happy return of This Is Us last week. The Peacock also announced the renewal of Ellen's Game of Games for another year. Brooklyn Nine-Nine lost three tenths off its premiere. No real surprise, but it can't afford to lose much more than that. Manifest hit a bump last week, losing two tenths. Fans of Blindspot and The Blacklist might want to start worrying, things are not looking good for either program.

When The Passage will be continued?

Cheshire_Cat posted 5 years ago

I'm disappointed to learn Blindspot might be cancelled.

LadyShelley posted 5 years ago

I've never been much for the sitcom in general, so it's hard for me to judge.

I gave Fam a chance, but I'm done with it (I don't find it very funny). Sticking with Schooled, so far I'm enjoying it. The Passage seems an alright new show, I'll watch a couple more episodes before I decide to stick with it or not. And my favorites are slowly starting to air new episodes on CW, so I'm happy about that. :)
