Vinton "Buzz" Harper, Jr.

Buzz is the second child of Vinton, and only son of Vinton, and only stepson of Naomi. He was added to the family at the N.B.C.'s request to include children. Thus "Mama's Family" literally describes Vinton and Naomi's unit. He was 15 years old. Buzz is the only straight man and level headed and gentle character of Mama's Family. He is devoted to Thelma. Vinton's children were dropped from the cast when it went to first run syndication. Since time went by in between the two incarnations of Mama's Family, they ostensibly graduated from High School, and moved away to University. However, Thelma is depicted quickly mentioning that they do not live nearby any more, and seem to be forgotten.
