Beth Enright

Beth Enright came to Skelthwaite in 2001 to replace Jacqui at the Health Centre. However she grew up in the area and so knew Vic, Dick and Simon plus she had known Peggy as well. Her friendly nature made her popular quickly especially with Chris who instantly took a shine to her.

Beth initially stayed at the Pub but like Chris before her found it too noisy to work so became Vic's lodger. She tried to avoid Chris's attention on her but after she and Chris shared a kiss (after Chris had saved Cheryl's life in the Lampard House fire) she told Chris the truth about why he had been resisting him. She had been married but her marriage had collapsed because her husband had cheated on her and she left him. Beth admitted that she like Chris but couldn't start a relationship with him.

Beth was angry when her husband Stewart started divorce proceedings against her but eventually realised it was the only answer and agreed to it. When he turned up in Skelthwaite, Beth wasn't happy to see him but they talked things through and departed on good terms.

In 2002 On the same day that her divorce was made official she met a family that would change her life, the Beresfords. Tom the father made the mistake of wolf whistling Beth as she jogged past the family's moving van and Beth had a go at Tom. This proved to be the first of several meetings between them.

At the same time Vic and Lucy announced they were leaving the area and so Beth had to move out. Ironically Tom bought the house from Vic. At the same time all this was happening Simon had tried to kiss Beth but she didn't respond to his advances but agreed to keep it quiet. This all changed when Simon cheated on Anna and Beth confronted him about it. It was a relief for Beth when he left the area but she knew she had to help Anna with the break up.

Tom's son Joe took an interest in Beth who only went on one Date with Joe just to Annoy Tom. However on the night of Vic's leaving party she had to bring a drunk Joe home and She and Tom shared a kiss. Shortly afterwards she broke it off with Joe realising it wasn't fair stringing him along.

She and Tom became closer and after Tom had thought his daughter Molly had Meningitis (she didn't but pretended she was ill because she was being bullied at school) she and Tom couldn't deny there feelings anymore and got together as a couple. This upset Joe as he felt his dad shouldn't be with anyone because his mum was dead. However Joe made things worse by telling Molly this and Molly who had been fine with Tom and Beth being a couple no longer like Beth. Beth saw how it was pulling the family apart and considered taking a job in Holland. However she realised that she and Tom was worth fighting for and she turned the job down and Joe and Molly accepted Beth.

In 2003 she and Tom were still together and when Tom told Beth that he had a surprise for her, Anna thought it would be a marriage proposal. However it turned out to be a dog called Raggy which was a subtle attempt by Tom to get Beth to move in with him. Beth decided to get Tom to propose by making him Jealous and so gave the new barman at the pub Skippy a lot of attention. Tom finally got the message and proposed which Beth said yes to.

Later on in the year Beth discovered she was pregnant which delighted her, Tom and Joe but made Molly quite upset. After Beth convinced her that she and Tom would still love her no matter what, Molly accepted it as well. However their happiness was short lived when the pregnancy turned out to be ectopic and Beth nearly dies. Beth does recover but is very hurt emotionally from what happens and calls off the wedding. However Tom manages to convince her that they all need her and Beth realises that even if she doesn't have children of her own she still has a family with Tom, Joe and Molly and despite her father not showing up (her mother died when she was about Molly's age) the wedding takes place. At christmas Beth discovers that she is pregnant again.

In 2004 Beth starts to think that Tom is avoiding her but it turns out that the factory is in trouble and Tom was trying to protect her from those issues. Then Beth is put in grave danger when she tries to help Helen Ashworth whose pregnant sister Elizabeth and her husband Tom died.

Beth gets fed up of Tom's overprotectiveness and tells him so but when Tom's checking upon her stops her dying of Carbon Monoxide she no longer see it as a burden. When Raggy the Dog is accused of Biting Ozias Harding Beth and Molly have to prove that Raggy is innocent which in the end Anna does.

Beth goes into labour on a day out with the local widows and with Tom by her side gives birth to a son Victor named after Vic who helped her when she first came back to the area.

In 2005 Beth finds it a struggle combining nursing with motherhood and after an embarrassing incident when she gave the wrong patient a bath, she resigned knowing her son had to come first. At the same time Tom was offered a job in Wales. Beth found it difficult to leave the area but after a chat with Joe realised that her heart was with Tom, Molly and Victor she left with them for Wales.
