Alistair Quince

"Alistair Quince" is the host of Mama's Family. The reason why he is the host of Mama's Family has to do with it being spun off of The Carol Burnett Show, a variety show that is ostensibly produced on stage in front of a live audience. Most other Situation Comedies are also produced this way. However, many of them, such as the M.T.M. Enterprises Situation Comedies, painstakingly make them resemble Prime Time Dramas. Since Mama's Family is spun off of a Variety Show, they decided to have a parody host. Also common with Variety Shows, his actor Harvey Korman has a second character: Ed Higgins. If you have never seen Alistair Quince before, do not blame your self. Mama's Family eventually made its way to N.B.C. which provided many luxuries short of being filmed, and a music package. They were able to provide many other goodies such as a massive stage with an obvious high ceilings, excellent sound quality, excellent lighting, and on location outdoors footage. The Harper Family resulted in many grand and adventurous episodes during this time. Pay close attention to this massive living room set. Later, in First Run Syndication, they lost that set, and had to spend much time and much money and much energy building a replica. The result is one that is very low quality and cramped. All of the other luxuries went away which is a severely reduced production quality. Actually, the house is completely different. In the N.B.C. version, they utilized a huge house, nearly 3,000 square feet, that matched the Shotgun Layout inside. For example, The Front Door was located in the corner on the stage? It was located in the corner out side also! And remember, N.B.C. let them go out side many times. In First Run Syndication, they silently moved them to a completely different house with a close enough layout in side. This new house is not much smaller than the previous one. However, the front door is now located in the center instead of the corner. The only in universe explanation is that Aunt Fran and Thelma had a conversation with each other. When Mister Harper was still alive, Thelma lived in the original N.B.C. house. When Thelma and Fran's parents were still alive in the older looking house, Aunt Fran lived with them, as she does not want to be alone despite being married to her work. After Aunt Fran's drunken death of The Bathroom Curse, Thelma did not want to stay in that house, and successfully traded places so she could stay in the much older house that once upon a time their parents lived in. Not much is said about this any more than how they heat and cool these houses. And when they picked it up for First Run Syndication, they were initially going to make 100 new episodes. Instead, they adopted the old episodes. And when they did that, they replaced the original credits segments, deleting both the house and Alistair Quince in the process. So do your selves a favor and watch the original episodes as they once were so you can see the deleted Alistair Quince and the deleted house.
