Adam is a fan of indie music, singer Ben Branson, bird tattoos, and a bit clingy. He also despairs of ever meeting his soulmate, until his roommate Greg convinces him to try Make-a-Match, a dating app. Adam soon finds his soulmate, Amanda, who shares all of his interests.
After two months together, Adam proposes to Amanda and she says that she can't handle being in a relationship. Men come and take Adam away, and he's soon told that he's the fifth in a series of clones built to meet Amanda's desires. He's given the "choice" of working for Make-a-Match as a custodial worker, or undergoing biomass recycling.
Desperate, Adam tries to stage a breakout by impersonating Adam Mk. 6 but just fails. He considers suicide, but his roommate Greg (secretly a company employee) has a change of heart and convinces Adam that he's honest, kind, and loyal. Adam then leads a rebellion of the clones against Make-a-Match. They kill the CEO and escape, and Adam begins a life of his own. He meets Amanda but no longer needs her, and forms a band with his clone: Adam and the Adams.
