Gina was born to be a lawyer - she's tenacious, hardworking, a stickler for detail with an uncanny ability to read people. However, her career as a criminal barrister stalled due to her marriage breakdown and the financial and sole responsibility of raising two young daughters. Sometimes her strong sense of propriety inhibits her playing the game. She is not slick or manipulative - she plays by the rules.
Her daily life is a constant juggle of work life balance. Gina is a good parent but she struggles to raise her children the way she would like (good schools, no nanny), as she is often time poor and financially stretched.
When old friend Alex Klima brings her Simon's case, Gina sees a chance to make her mark. The case is high profile and she is genuinely interested and intrigued by Simon and doesn't think he deserves to be in prison. She is also unexpectedly drawn to Alex.
