Alex Conrad was one of the greatest trapeze catchers in the business. He performed with the Flying Falcons and blames himself when they died. Years later, Joey told him that Jess Falcon had rheumatism and it wasn't Alex's fault that the Falcons died.
His confidence restored, Alex trained a new trapeze artist, Jim Freeman. Alex eventually finds out that Jess didn't tell Joey what Joey claimed, but Joey insists that Jess would have said it. When the circus' trapeze artist Zarno quits rather than share billing, Tim has Jim and his wife Alice go on, and Alex acts as their catcher after Corky forgives him for his involvement in the Falcons' deaths.
