Roy is originally a convict ordered to be hanged by a warden with a grudge against Roy's father. Paladin, with the help of Chaplain Robert April, delays the hanging long enough for a pardon to come through. Later, Roy seems to have had a change of heart and is a bit of a wastrel. When Robert goes up into the mountains to recover a convict, Roy summons Paladin to find Robert and bring him back. Roy doesn't want to go, but Paladin shames him into accompanying him..
