Roy Calvert

An ex-gunfighter who killed 20 men, Roy Calvert retired four years earlier and moved to the town of Benedict with his wife and his son Jeff. Roy swore to his wife to never lift his gun to a man again. When the townspeople, led by rancher Frank Wellman, found out about Roy's past, they scorned him and his family. Roy's wife died of what the doctor said was pneumonia, but none of the townspeople visited her or attended her funeral. Roy figured that she just gave up.

Three years later, Roy got his chance to "kill" the town during a drought. Roy had the only source of water, a lake on his ranch, and fenced it off. When the ranchers tried to drive their cattle through, Roy had his son Jeff kill two of their hands. Jeff fell in love with Frank Wellman's daughter Jeff, but refused to disobey his father's wishes. Frank called in Paladin, who ended up siding with the townspeople. When Jeff faced off against Paladin, Roy intervened rather than see his son become a killer. In the end, Frank agreed to let the repentant townspeople pay their respects at his wife's grave, and said that he would negotiate for the water access.
