Captain Victoria Gates is the newest member of the 12th Precinct having taken over for the deceased Roy Montgomery. She's as by-the-book as they come. Given her political aspirations, she seems determined to do whatever is necessary to climb the ladder to a high ranking position at One Police Plaza.
Captain Gates cut her teeth as a detective with internal affairs. Nicknamed Iron Gates, she prefers to be addressed as Captain orSir. Gates missed out on being the youngest woman in the NYPD to make detective by six weeks. The person who beat her out just happens to be currently in her charge—Detective Kate Beckett.
As we mentioned, Captain Gates is a stickler for the rules. Not entirely thrilled with Castle's contributions to the precinct and the professional embarrassment he might cause to her, she nonetheless abides by his presence because of his friendship with the Mayor. Though quick to reprimand, Gates is first and foremost a fair and decent cop—sometimes even backing up her detectives when they least expect it.
