Ivan Tors

IVAN TORS, born in 1916, succumbed to a heart attack in the Matto Grosso 4th June, 1983. He had studied at the University of Budapest and had already gained fame for several plays before continuing his education at Fordham University in New York in the late Thirties. After the end of hostilities he became a scriptwriter in Hollywood and to his credit are such films as Song of Love (1947), for which Bronislaw Kaper was music director: and two years later, That Forsyte Woman. He then became a producer-writer and producer specialising in science-fiction films while at the same time joining the staff at the University of California in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioural Science. His greatest success, however, has been with films with and about animals, especially since 1963 with Flipper and all its successors and spin offs. Also to his credit is the establishment of a 260 acre wildlife preserve in California, 'Africa: USA'.
