Carl Dean Switzer was born August 7, 1927. He got the role as Alfalfa in the 1930s series Our Gang, one of the series' most popular and best remembered characters. After leaving the series in 1940, Switzer struggled to find substantial roles due to typecasting. During an altercation with a friend over money, he was shot. He passed away from a gunshot wound to the groin.
