Born in Murcia, María Rosario Pilar Martínez Molina Baeza, professionally known by her stage name Charo, is instantly recognizable by her trademark expression, 'Cuchi Cuchi'. She learned to play guitar at an early age, and studied under the world-famous master of Flamenco guitar Andrés Segovia, becoming a recording artist in her early teens. She joined Xavier Cugat's band, and travelled to the U.S., where she became a sensation and was soon appearing on the Tonight Show with Johnny Carson.
