Robert Francis "Beto" O'Rourke is a fourth-generation Texan, born and raised in El Paso. He is the U.S. Representative for Texas's 16th congressional district since 2013 and is the Democratic nominee in the 2018 Texas Senate race, challenging incumbent Republican Ted Cruz.
After graduating from Columbia University, he worked in New York before moving back to El Paso to start a small technology company. Beto ran for El Paso City Council in 2005 and served for two terms before running for U.S. Congress in 2012, taking on an eight-term incumbent and winning.
He livs with his wife and three children in El Paso.
