Andy Devine

Andrew Vabre "Andy" Devine was a character actor known for his distinctive crackly, raspy voice. He was born in Flagstaff, Arizona and grew up in Kingman where his parents ran the Beale Hotel. Andy's first appearences were in silent films and he went on to star in 'talkies', TV, radio and stage. Some of Andy's roles include Cookie, the sidekick of Roy Rogers in 10 feature films; Jingles on The Adventures of Wild Bill Hickok; the voice of Friar Tuck in Disney's Robin Hood (1973); and Santa Claus in Batman (1966). In total, Andy appeared in over 400 film and coutless radio, stage and television shows. His funeral attendees included stars John Wayne, Jimmy Stewar and Ken Curtis.
