Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez was born in the Bronx, New York City, New York. After winning second place in a high school science fair, MIT named a small asteroid after her, 23238 Ocasio-Cortez. Alexandria graduated from Boston University with majors in economics and international relations. Despite overwhelming odds, she won the 2018 Democratic primary in New York's 14th congressional district, defeating the 10 term incumbent, Democratic Caucus Chair Joseph Crowley.
