Born in San Francisco, California Elisha Cook Jr. debuted on stage at age 14 and worked vaudeville, stock companies and Broadway, before turning to Hollywood in 1936, playing mostly small-time gangsters when casting directors discovered his flair for portraying neurotics, deceptively mild-mannered villains and spineless double-dealers.
Elisha Cook Jr. died of a stroke at age 91.
