Born in Temple, Texas, Rip Torn wanted to be a rancher and studied animal husbandry at the University of Texas. He decided that becoming a movie star was a good way to earn enough money to buy a ranch. He became one of the most versatile and respected character actors of his generation, and was widely known for his roles as Artie in the Larry Sanders Show, and as Agent Zed, in the Men In Black franchise.
Rip Torn died peacefully in his sleep at age 88.
