Born in Tenafly, New Jersey, Ed Harris graduated from University of Oklahoma's theater department before moving to Los Angeles where he began his acting career on stage and in minor roles in film and television series. He landed his first leading role in the 1981 cult-favorite Knightriders, and two years later was playing astronaut John Glenn in The Right Stuff.
