Born in Worcestershire and raised on the Wyke Manor Estate in Wick, Nell Hudson graduated from the Oxford School of Drama. She landed her first professional role in a 2012 episode of Holby City before landing the role of Laoghaire MacKenzie in Starz's time travel drama Outlander.
