Stephen Edward Schmidt was born and grew up in North Plainfield, New Jersey. He is a communications and public affairs strategist known for his roles on the campaigns of George W. Bush, Arnold Schwarzenegger, and John McCain. Steve attended the University of Delaware majoring in political science leaving before obtaining a degree. In June 2018 he left the GOP tweeting, "the Republican Party [..] is fully the party of Trump. It is corrupt, indecent and immoral. With the exception of a few Governors like Baker, Hogan and Kasich it is filled with feckless cowards who disgrace and dishonor the legacies of the party's greatest leaders."
