Born in in Kirksville, Missouri Geraldine Page was raised in Chicago. Her interests always leaning towards the arts, she joined the drama club at her church and found her passion. Graduating from the Goodman Theater School in 1945, it wasn't until 1952, playing the lead role in Tennessee William's play Summer and Smoke that she became popular with a growing audience, also becoming the first person from a non-Broadway production to receive the Drama Critics Award. Appearing in small roles in films, her first starring role was in 1953 opposite John Wayne in Hondo. When she died in 1987, Geraldine Page was regarded as one of the most important actresses of the 20th century, and was still acting on Broadway in Blithe Spirit, and her final film My Little Girl had not yet been released.
Geraldine Page died of a heart attack at age 62.
