Cash-strapped Alison and Mike think their dreams have come true when they inherit a grand country house, unaware that it's falling apart and teeming with the ghosts of former inhabitants.

Alison, still recovering from her near-fatal accident, finds herself hounded by the ghostly gaggle, who now realise that she can both see and hear them.

With Mike assuring her that these ‘visions' are exactly the sort of side effect her doctors warned her about, Alison tries to ignore their existence - a tactic which only exacerbates the problem, as the long-dead army captain puts the ghosts onto a war footing.

Meanwhile Mike's attempts to turn the old house into a home leads to a DIY disaster, saddling Lady Button with an ill-suited roommate. And the ghosts are introduced to the internet, allowing Julian to learn about his questionable legacy.

It's Pat's ‘Death Day' and he prepares himself for his family's annual pilgrimage to the site of his demise.

But, realising that Alison's ‘gift' makes her a conduit between the dead and the living, he begs her to pass on a message from the other side - a plan complicated when Pat realises a shocking truth about his marriage.

Meanwhile, Mike struggles to come to terms with his bathroom-based paranoia, and Kitty tries to find out where babies come from.

Desperate for cash, Mike and Alison rent the house to a film crew making a period drama – a move that pushes both Thomas and the old house's floorboards to breaking point.

Alison's attempt to win over their posh new neighbours with a swanky dinner party are thrown into chaos by Mary's woeful catering and Robin's desire to celebrate the lunar eclipse.

Now juggling day jobs with their endless renovations, Mike and Alison are both penniless and exhausted when a luxury hotel chain makes them an offer they can't refuse.

Alison and Mike are trying to find a semi-harmonious routine with the ghostly housemates of Button House and are working towards a new money-making venture to fund their perpetual renovations. But after a paranormal photo of the house goes viral, Alison and Mike spot their opportunity to bring money in more quickly by using the ghosts' 'talents' to create an authentic haunted house experience. Will they be able to convince the ghosts to help them?

After a night of partying, Alison and Mike scramble to clean up the house for a venue viewing, and Alison tries to find out why the ghosts are acting so strangely.

Alison and Mike grapple with the latest obstacle to nailing down an event booking, but they're stymied by the Captain's past coming back to haunt him. As the other ghosts also get underfoot, Pat tries to support Alison in any way he can, acting as referee to the ghosts' fight over how they're going to spend their evening. Meanwhile, Lady Button is confused by urges she hasn't felt before.

A discovery in the house leads Thomas to go down memory lane, but as Alison comes to realise, memory and reality don't always go hand in hand, especially when there are ghostly witnesses eager to tell their own version of events. Meanwhile, Mike struggles with his own distorted memories of Alison's past, and dreads confronting an old adversary.

It's the first time Mike has been left alone with the ghosts at night, but he assures Alison she should have a night out and let her hair down. The ghosts happily pass the time with music club, but they're interrupted by some uninvited guests. It becomes the ghosts' mission to try to alert Mike and figure out how to protect the house from the intruders.

The big day has arrived at Button House, but some freak weather disrupts everyone's plans. Can Mike, Alison and the ghosts rally to pull off what they've been working so hard to achieve? The Captain is in his element with the emergency preparations to the house, but Pat is distracted by an unexpected reminder of his past. Meanwhile, Lady Button is aghast at what Alison is allowing to take place at Button House.

It's Christmas at Button House, and Mike is determined to make it perfect for his family. Alison is also determined to deliver the best Christmas ever for the living and the dead, although the latter aren't filled with festive cheer. Christmas just isn't that much fun when you're deceased. But when Julian is confronted with past wrongs, he has a revelation that could help the ghosts rediscover the real message of Christmas.

When a historical documentary team comes to film at Button House, Alison and the ghosts are shocked to discover that the assassination plot they're exploring involves one of their own. Meanwhile, Mike - always on the lookout for free publicity - begs Alison to accept the offer of a television interview about the old house. The only hitch is Alison is terrified of speaking on camera. Luckily, Thomas is there to coach her in the art of speech-giving. What could possibly go wrong?

A mysterious visitor arrives at Button House with a revelation that leaves Alison reeling. Thomas is equally confused by his feelings for this strange visitor, while Lady Button and Julian warn of sinister motives, and Kitty is as territorial as ever over her surrogate sister Alison. Mike has an epiphany on his first day at a new job, which triggers Julian to remember his first day as a ghost. But will their insights be enough to help Alison make sense of the overwhelming news she has received?

While Button House is being fumigated for woodworm, Alison and Mike decide to save some money and camp in the grounds, sending the ghosts' routines off kilter.

Alison has invited Lucy to come to Button House for a sleepover, but after a concerning meeting with the solicitor, Alison must work out if Lucy is really who she says she is.

When the ghosts try to sabotage Alison's makeshift therapy session for Kitty, they unwittingly face their own demons. And Mike's desire to see the ghosts yields surprising results

While Alison and Mike gear up to make a big investment, the Captain and Kitty work together with the other ghosts to solve an unfolding mystery before it's too late.

When they discover a man living in a tent on their grounds, Alison and Mike - with the ghosts' help - learn that they have more to offer this Christmas than they realised.

Mike and Alison welcome the very first guests to their new bijoux B&B, determined to get a glowing review, whatever the cost. While serving the couple breakfast, Alison realises that they are not enjoying their anniversary break and, fearing a bad review, utilises the surprising skills of Lady Button and Julian to ensure the couple make the most of their weekend away. Mary reveals she has never had a holiday, so Pat tells her about the joys and pitfalls of week on the Costa Del Sol. Thomas is perplexed yet secretly thrilled by sudden attention from the Plaguers, who, after admiring Alison's discarded portrait of him in the basement, are now affording him celebrity status in Button House, hanging on his every word. The Captain is outraged by this meaningless reverence, believing that only a handful of great war leaders deserve such unadulterated veneration. As he and Thomas clash over the Plaguers, he challenges them to endure a poetry recital in order to test their loyalty.

Mary walks Julian through her journey of self-discovery and how she finally found her voice. Thomas realises enough is enough - he must go ‘cold turkey' on his Alison addiction, and needs Pat's undivided attention. Old friends of Mike check in to the guesthouse and agree to share the surprising secret of their success. The Captain is thrown by a change to his daily routine, so Kitty steps in to teach him how to live in the moment. Robin helps Lady Button to remember lost friends.

Can the ghosts get back into Alison's good books after she gives them the biggest telling off of their lives/deaths? Alison and Mike learn that relaxation is harder than it looks.

Shocking news rocks Button House and a booking mix-up sees Mike and Alison forced to host a last-minute children's party that they are utterly unprepared for.

Alison and Mike's neighbour spots a business opportunity which sparks all out war between them. The Captain makes a discovery and the Ghosts find a surprising new friend.

Mike and Alison reach boiling point over the B&B. Julian aims to prove he is more selfless than people think. A new addition triggers frightening flashbacks for Robin.

It's Christmas at Button House and Mike and Alison are heading to Mike's parents to celebrate with family. As Mike piles up the Tupperware with what he insists are only side dishes (despite one clearly being an entire turkey), Kitty expresses her disappointment at not spending Christmas day with Alison. Alison promises that they'll be back by the evening and what's more, reveals to the ghosts that there is a Christmas surprise for each of them in the Library. She gives them strict instructions not to 'open' their gifts until Christmas day, which leaves Julian struggling with temptation. The ghosts are touched by Alison's thoughtful generosity and are inspired to give her a special Christmas present to remember – but with Alison due back in a matter of hours, can they pull off their ambitious idea in time? Mike's loaded Tupperware comes in handy when their journey hits a bump in the road, forcing them to reassess their Christmas day plans. Kitty gets her moment in the spotlight and a much-needed pep talk from a surprising source.

Mike approaches Alison to discuss their finances following the loss of their B&B business. However, Alison is more preoccupied with plotting revenge on the Ghosts for April Fool's Day and recruits a playful Humphrey to execute her plans.

But who will prove the hardest to fool? Meanwhile, Mike is shocked to find someone from their insurance company on his doorstep – an unannounced visit to check the details of the gatehouse fire. Can Mike convince her that lightning really can strike thrice?

In a bid to make some much-needed money, Alison and Mike look into selling some land. The plan proves far from straightforward however, with Lady Button up in arms at the mere thought of losing some of her beloved estate. Thomas enters a competition that he hopes will finally see him become a published poet, but hearing Lady Button speak so passionately about Button House gives him an idea or two... Pat and Julian are locked in a dispute, and it is Robin who offers a surprising pearl of wisdom.

Alison and Mike are forced to cosy up to Barclay if their plan to sell some land to the golf consortium is going to work. Elsewhere, Alison is involved in a silent negotiation of her own – she has designs on Lady Button's bedroom but can't quite muster the courage to ask her outright if she would consider relocating. The ghosts become fixated on solving the mystery of Kitty's death.

The ghosts are officially bored, and Pat comes up with new entertainment for the gang. Mike and Alison host their international buyer at Button House in order to confirm the land sale, but Mike's antics threaten the whole deal – can he pull it back in time? Humphrey is offered a fresh perspective on his strained marriage and finally learns some French, with a little help from a most unexpected source.

Robin has an epiphany that has a far-reaching impact on the rest of the ghosts, who each struggle to believe his prediction. Alison suggests a spontaneous night out with Mike, just like the old days! They try to get the old gang together but with such short notice, only Obi and his new girlfriend Brenda are free. Despite Alison's efforts to plan the best night ever, the evening doesn't quite meet her expectations, and the couple are left pondering how much their lives are changing.

Mike and Alison receive a life-changing offer beyond their wildest dreams. Still reeling from the news and anxious to discuss it, they are interrupted by a heartbroken Obi, who has been suddenly dumped by a strangely callous Brenda. Alison and Mike agree to reconvene with lists of pros and cons. At first, Obi's romantic woes find a sympathetic ear in eternally lovelorn Thomas, but even he tires of Obi's self-pity. Meanwhile, Alison must fend off the ghosts, desperate to sway her decision.

It's coming up to Christmas, and Mike's mum is staying. Betty wants to be helpful, but it isn't long before she is driving Mike and Alison round the bend. Betty has overstayed her welcome, but Alison and Mike don't quite have the heart to tell her. Just as she decides to leave of her own volition, Betty suspects something is terribly wrong at Button House. She adopts extreme measures to make the house safe and in doing so endangers the resident Ghosts – will they come out of this unscathed?
