While this may be a conflicting issue for some, you have to realise that the majority of countries do not recognise Taiwan as an independent state, but simply an independent province of China. Taiwan's official name according to themselves is not Taiwan either, but The Republic of China, so you can interpret China as you wish (Mainland or the former China before it changed to communism)
On top of that, David is unable to change this list as it's an package of a third party, which took names of countries from official sources.

Give it time ... we're all going to be a part of China sooner or later ... empires come, empires go ... the American empire is in decline, China is on the rise

Thomas is correct; for the full picture: our list of countries is based on the ISO 3166 standard. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ISO_3166-1#Naming_and_disputes has some background information about their choice of naming.
