Disregard My Message From Two Days Ago

Hey tot,

Please don't worry about my last message "Alternate List for Netflix's Spycraft."  I now see you are taking a break from TVmaze. I hope you and your family are safe and well.

Alternate List for Netflix's Spycraft

tvjjbj12 posted 2 years ago

Hi tnt,

I hope all is well with you and your family.

I request your advice on adding an Alternate List for Netflix's Spycraft, which you added over a year ago. A country premiere or a broadcast premiere appear two best possible choices of the six.

The Science Channel currently airs the show, with the last episode on March 8, 2022. I waited until I knew that to ask your help. Broadcasting Tuesdays at 22:00 in the U.S. is all I know. Using TVmaze episode numbers, the eight-episode order is 4, 5, 1, 2, 6, 3, 7, & 8.

SciChan aired the first episode on January 11, 2022, with new ones airing for the next three weeks. No episode aired the week with February 8, probably due to the Olympics. Then the next three aired, with the last one next week. Also, four of the episode titles are different.

I believe I have all the data I need to add an Alternate List. What do you think?

Sorry, I almost forget. Gabriel Patillo narrates for SciChan broadcast. May I add him as Cast labeling him something like "Narrator-U.S." or "Narrator-Science Channel"?

Thanks a bunch.

Joe

Wheel of Time

drosso46561 posted 2 years ago

Hi, I saw that you were the one who did the Show summary for Jordan's Wheel Of Time. I was just curious if you have read the series. I have several times and am kinda hesitant about how they are going to portray things. Some of what I have read about the upcoming series is that they are going to  be portraying Moraine as the Dragon Reborn instead of Rand Al Thor. It leaves me wondering how how they are going to portray Matt, Perrin and the others.

tnt posted 2 years ago

The summary is taken from the first press release, announcing the series http://www.thefutoncritic.com/news/2018/10/02/amazon-studios-greenlights-action-fantasy-series-the-wheel-of-time-based-on-the-best-selling-novels-by-robert-jordan-which-have-sold-more-than-90-million-copies-worldwide-490200/20181002amazon01/

I've read the series a long time ago, but I don't believe they gonna be changing things that much. Nothing indicates that it's gonna be Moraine, on the contrary, the show description says "Moiraine's interested in these five because she believes one of them might be the reincarnation of an incredibly powerful individual".
The later summaries also say "she embarks on a dangerous, world-spanning journey with five young men and women, one of whom is prophesied to be the Dragon Reborn, who will either save or destroy humanity." So that's not she. Anyway, in three days we will know more))

I was lucky enough to meet the author, Jody Tierney who wrote under the pen name of Robert Jordan at Dragon Con in Atlanta and get one of his Wheel of Time books autographed before he passed away from the rare blood disorder that he had. One of the first information releases I saw online that listed who the actors where going to be for each of the characters was where I saw the information about Moraine being the Dragon Reborn. I was hoping the author of that press release had gotten the information wrong and it looks like they did.

I was looking at how they changed Terry Goodkinds 'Sword of Truth' story when they turned that into 'Legend Of The Seeker and with that in mind, I could see a lot of fans of Wheel of Time being upset about major changes to the story line of the series. I always wonder why the production company's never take a good set of books and do a limited run series exactly as the books are written when a series is family friendly and popular with a large group of readers.

Yeah, to be honest, I don't remember any fantasy series that would've been made completely true to books. On the other hand, Amazon is not Disney :D
We will know very soon.

Just a question, since it seems unclear to me

On Netflix shows, should I use the runtimes from the actual episode or from the official website (since they are almost always different)

I've been using the actual runtime, since Juan told me to, but I saw you changed the airdates for "You", e.g. the last episode of season 3 is 60min long, but on the Netflix website it says 58...

I changed them back (should've asked you before changing the airdates!), but is there an official policy for this?

tnt posted 2 years ago

For me, the actual runtime of the last episode is 58:20. And generally, for Netflix and Amazon, the runtimes almost always coincide with what it says on the official page. YMMV

Nivekolsen posted 2 years ago

Is there no "system" on how to handle the episodes? b/c "for me" probably varies from person to person..?

tnt posted 2 years ago

Could be, depending on the country or something. Hence the safest solution is to go with whatever is displayed on the episode's page, in my opinion.
At least in this case no one would whine about runtimes not coinciding with the official episode guide.

Nivekolsen posted 2 years ago

Maybe ask Juan? He told me that for web channels the actual runtime of the entire episode should be used. Viaplay often cuts away all credits from their runtime, but imo. the credits are a part of the episode - when I asked him what to do with Viaplay, he told me to use the whole runtime.

I also talked to Nikquest about this same issue, and on his Netflix account the runtimes displayed by Netflix were different than on my account, so I don't know how reliable they are.

tnt posted 2 years ago

Well, if the actual runtimes are different for different users, and displayed runtimes are different for different users - what difference does it make, which runtime is listed here? Anyway, it will be correct for some and incorrect for others.

TBH, I couldn't care less about ±2 minutes. I'm always using runtimes from Netflix, and I never saw any noticeable discrepancy with the actual runtimes, and no one ever complained that they are different from what they see on Netflix. So I intend to continue doing just that.
You're obviously free to do whatever you think is right, or whatever someone told you. But if people keep complaining about that, probably something is not right, either with your data or with the people :D

Nivekolsen posted 2 years ago

idk if the actual runtime is different, but the displayed runtime is different between myself & nikquest - so I usually stick to the actual runtime, incl. intro, credits and everything - but since the policy is very unclear, i guess there are no wrong answers

1.2) Episode screencaps or character images can be taken from official websites, provided they meet the policy's episode gallery requirements.
In this case the highest available resolution has to be used. (i dont know what bts mean? but i see you mentioned bad resolution as the reason for deleting, even though i only upload 1920 images from the official source for bbc shows, not some silly banner resolution vlc screenshits?)

tnt posted 2 years ago

The episode gallery can be used to submit images from the episode. Images here should be an actual scene from the episode. Official promotional images may be used, provided they have exactly the same composition as shown in the public release. That means "behind the scenes" images cannot be used. Since gallery images should be taken from the actual episode, their aspect ratio should be the same as on the show itself.

https://www.tvmaze.com/faq/16/episode-extras

If you don't understand what "exactly the same composition" means, or what's the difference between BTS (behind the scenes) photo and actual episode screencap, or why the "banner resolution vlc screenshits" (you must be proud of yourself for inventing such a cute word, "screenshits", ha-ha-ha) have the proper aspect ratio for shows not shot in 16:9, go and ask someone from the staff to explain that to you. And as a general rule of thumb, stay away from other people's work.
In short words, go copy/paste somewhere else.

bungle posted 2 years ago

those are the official screencaps. i really dont care which is the default, or to discuss this any further but can you please just stop deleting my stuff?

"And stay away from other people's work." is only what im asking from you.

tnt posted 2 years ago

those are not screencaps. those are "official promotional images", which can be used only when they have exactly the same composition as shown in the public release. when they are not - they can't be used, period. at least not as the main episode image, if there's a proper screencap present in the gallery.

i probably wouldn't even noticed those images if you're didn't set them as main.
