Ratings Roundup Week of January 28, 2018

As mentioned last week, the Grammy Awards were not the ratings winner CBS was hoping for. While it topped Sunday night and the week for the network, those numbers were low, as in the lowest Grammy Awards rating since 2001 low. The Eye will take the win, but it's safe to say they were hoping for better. No other big surprises last week. For those keeping score at home, SEAL Team slightly edged out SWAT last week, both shows should be renewed, however. Criminal Minds is hanging on by its fingertips, but will probably squeak another year; Scorpion is most likely safe as well.

State of the Union Address

--

7.0

Of the Big Three networks, NBC had the highest rated coverage of the after speech analysis of President Trump's first State of the Union address. The Good Place wrapped its season as did The Brave. The Good Place was renewed, The Brave probably won't be so lucky. The Peacock also premiered a new comedy, A.P. Bio last week to low numbers. NBC has a high average rating for its shows, if that number doesn't come up, the high school series won't last long.

ABC had a workmanlike week last week. Grey's Anatomy led the way for the network followed by The Bachelor. Scandal has made the most of its last season, putting up good numbers, fans can at least say the show went out well. How To Get Away With Murder held steady, while Fresh Off The Boat and Speechless dipped.

State of the Union Address

--

5.4

FOX spent most of last week in reruns. Of the four networks that carried President Trump's first State of the Union Address, FOX pulled the highest viewership with almost 12 million people. 9-1-1 proved itself worthy of that quick renewal by topping the network's grid last week, The Four: Battle for Stardom was a distant second. The Resident continued to struggle, dropping another tenth in its regular time-slot. Lucifer and The X-Files also dropped a tenth from last week.

The CW had no surprises last week. The Flash and Black Lightning saw a slight boost in viewers Tuesday night against the State of the Union Address. Supergirl rose a tenth with Supernatural steady. Not sure what the storyline is in Arrow at the moment, but this is the second week the show has turned in a 0.4 off a tenth from its usual ratings. Valor wrapped up consistent with its season numbers, don't expect to hear anything about a season two, however.

Next week will be the last with original episodes for most networks for February. Looking ahead at schedules, it appears everyone will be running repeats against the two weeks of Olympics coverage. As we head into March, renewal news should start to trickle out so hang on for the Spring! Are your favorite shows safe?

Ok, thanks for replying. :)

I don't think a decision has been made yet for Midnight, Texas. NBC will probably make all of its renewal announcements, fall and summer shows, at the same time so I wouldn't expect any news until sometime in April.

Riverdale is about at the average for the superhero shows, it should have no trouble getting renewed which is pretty good after its rocky start last year. Arrow seems to be in a bit of a slump, and like I said, not sure if its just viewer fatigue or if the current story line is just uninteresting to the fans. There's no reason to suspect it's in any danger though.

I have a question about one of NBC's shows that aired during the summer into mid-ish September: have you heard if Midnight, Texas has been or will be renewed for a second season? As for the shows I like on CW (the DC shows and Riverdale), I'm playing catch-up with them. Of those, it looks like Riverdale and Arrow have the lowest of the ratings
