NBC execs were likely jumping for joy when they saw the ratings numbers for the rebooted Night Court last week. Granted, the looky-loos were out in full force, but the series had one of the best premieres for a comedy on the network in the last six years. Even the reruns did well thanks to a boost from the NFL playoff game. Now comes the real test, how much of that audience will stick around for this week's episode? If the show can hold most of its premiere audience, it will be a lock for renewal. This is something the productions of Lopez vs Lopez and Young Rock are keenly aware of, as neither show has done much ratings-wise this season. Young Rock, at least, is probably done after this season. New Amsterdam wrapped its series on an up note, picking up several hundred thousand viewers for its finale.

ABC had a quiet week. The Rookie continued to do well on its new night, picking up eight hundred thousand viewers. The Rookie: Feds enjoyed a boost of four hundred thousand viewers. Will Trent picked up an additional four hundred thousand viewers. If it can keep what it's got, it might see a second season. Big Sky picked up two hundred thousand viewers for its season finale. It has consistently been the lowest-rated scripted show, drama or comedy, for the network and its future is very much up in the air, especially since newer (ie cheaper) shows like The Rookie: Feds and Will Trent are outperforming it week after week.

CBS announced late last week that NCIS: Los Angeles will wrap at the end of this season. The show has been a steady ratings performer for the network, but at fourteen seasons, it's also an expensive one. LIngo held most of its premiere audience, only losing three hundred thousand viewers. East New York was down four hundred thousand viewers. Without the benefit of a crossover event, NCIS: Hawai'i returned to its usual middling numbers, but will likely be renewed.

FOX wrapped the sixth season of The Resident last week. The medical drama picked up five hundred thousand viewers for its season finale, but time will tell if that's enough to earn a seventh season. If the show is renewed, chances are it will be announced as a 'final season'. Alert: Missing Persons Unit was steady but low. It's not getting any help from its anchor of a lead-in, Fantasy Island. It would not be that surprising if both shows were cancelled.

The CW once again ran a slate of mostly repeats last week. Walker and Walker: Independence each picked up one hundred thousand viewers. Penn & Teller: Fool Us returned from the holiday hiatus even with its last new episode in December. Criss Angel's Magic with the Stars was down one hundred thousand viewers.

Networks will be making decisions in the coming weeks regarding renewals and cancellations (even if they don't say anything officially until May). Will your favorite shows be returning for another season?

Night Court was down from its premiere, but it's still one of the highest-rated shows on the network, comedy or drama. It should be easily renewed, but I wouldn't expect a multi-year deal like the network did for Will & Grace. They were burned and burned hard when the ratings for W&G fell off a cliff.
Night Court had a great premiere and, after watching the first three episodes, I can say that I like it. It's not a rolling-on-the-floor-laughing kind of comedy, but it's pretty decent. The ratings numbers may dwindle a bit, but I believe it will easily land a season two renewal.
Thanks for this week's ratings roundup, @LadyShelley! :)
Thanks for the rundown! Quite handy! In addition to 'my shows' status, I check these posts to see how 'other' shows are doing - ones that I had decided early on weren't for me. So far on target & haven't reversed course. I still have more watched shows on CBS (11), then NBC (6), ABC only 1 now and no CW shows that last year or so.
