ABC renewed Scurbs and Shifting Gears last week. No real surprise, as both comedies performed well for the network this season. The only disappointment for fans is that both shows will likely have short episode counts next season. 9-1-1 and 9-1-1 Nashville returned after a month break. Parent, 9-1-1 was down one hundred thousand viewers for its return. 9-1-1: Nashville was down three hundred thousand viewers. RJ Decker wrapped its freshman season about even with the previous week. It is the only scripted show still awaiting news of its fate. Sadly, fans should probably be prepared for bad news.

CBS still had one bombshell left to fire at fans last week, when it dropped the news that several of its scripted dramas would have reduced episode counts next season. The network has maintained a higher stable of scripted content compared to the other linear networks, which have been shifting more of their schedule time to reality/competition shows and sports. Next season is no different, with plans for two new hour dramas joining a full roster of returning shows. As a result, Fire Country and Matlock will only air thirteen episodes next season. NCIS: Origins and NCIS: Sydney will split the nine pm Tuesday slot and air ten episodes each.
In ratings news, Watson was up four hundred thousand viewers for its penultimate episode. Elsbeth returned after a week off, up one hundred thousand viewers with the shift to an earlier time slot.

NBC finally put fans of Brilliant Minds out of their misery. The Zachary Quinto-led series was cancelled last week. It will burn off its remaining episodes over the summer. Freshman comedy Stumble was also cancelled. The Fall and Rise of Reggie Dinkins was renewed. Its rating fell off as its season progressed, but the early numbers were apparently strong enough for the network to give it a second season. Still no word on the fate of Law & Order or The Hunting Party.
As for ratings, the Peacock network once again filled most of its schedule with NBA playoffs. Chicago Fire and Med were about even with the previous week. Chicago PD was down one hundred thousand viewers. Law & Order: SVU was up one hundred thousand viewers, while Law & Order was even.

FOX announced Going Dutch would not be back for a third season last week. Ratings for the Denis Leary series were never very high, but it had squeaked a renewal once, and fans had hoped it would do so again. The 1% Club was up one hundred thousand viewers. Farmer Wants a Wife was down one hundred thousand viewers. Bear Grylls Is Running Wild lost three hundred thousand viewers off its premiere.

The only one I’ve been watching that got cancelled is Going Dutch. Oh well.
