He first appeared in the season 3 episode Wreckage. AJ is a foster teen runaway who is searching for his older brother, Ty Hensdale. He temporary moves in with the Fosters while Mike begins the process for an official license to foster children in order to legally take him in. In the episode Idyllwild, he officially becomes Mike's foster son once Mike gets his fostering license and begins to live in Mike's apartment.
