Luther (Tom Hopper) was already superstrong when Sir Reginald saved his life with a serum that gave him a body like a gorilla, something Luther hides by wearing gloves and long sleeves. Reginald then sent Luther on a lonely and pointless mission to the moon. While he's not really a great leader, Luther has a big heart.
