Born in Albany, New York John McTiernan graduated with a Master of Fine Arts from the AFI Conservatory in 1975. His first film in 1986, Nomads, was not well received, but his next three films were the hits Predator, Die Hard and The Hunt for Red October. His career was interrupted in 2006 due to personal legal issues, which led to him serving time in a federal prison.
