Alejandro Valdivia is a successful businessman who owns a luxurious estate called "El Paraíso" where he cultivates tobacco. He is married to Fernanda, a woman as beautiful as she is frivolous, whom he loves deeply.
One day he discovers her infidelity and decides to confront her. Fernanda tries to flee, but Alejandro, enraged and jealous, pursues her in his car, causing a strange accident in which she disappears and is presumed dead.
Later, overwhelmed by guilt, Alejandro attempts suicide but is rescued by Marián Ordales, a much younger woman to whom he is drawn.
He decides to rebuild his life with her, but things won't be so easy when they encounter opposition from Alejandro's entire family. Especially from his sister, Dariana, who wants to remain the sole heir to Alejandro's fortune, and along with her son, will concoct schemes to create conflict and get rid of Marián.
