Presumably this episode was inspired by the fact that Geoffrey Sumner, the actor who played Major Upshot-Bagley, the pig-rearing CO, was himself a pig farmer. However, I must point out that the photo above is not of Geoffrey Sumner but of Geoffrey Denton, who played Brigadier Hunt in Series1 Episode 13, "The New Officer".
