The signal that came to Earth wasn't interactive, it was just a formulation for RNA to re-code human DNA and somehow make their brains all part of a giant mesh network, sort of Borg-like, all nodes used in processing. Which is to say, there isn't a "central" hive, they are all part of the hive, and its pretty "evenly" distributed across the surface of the earth

It didn't work here but I think Carol is on the right track - maybe drugs can be used to put the brain into an altered state and at least temporarily break its ability to communicate with others
