I was trying to find the cast list, as I too was thinking of the "Lawnmower Man"...as the voice on the phone!  :)  I think we're onto something!

Loved the "rat" appearance at 42m57s...that wasn't in the script, for sure!  :)

What a "filler" episode!  Hopefully, the next one won't be as "bleurgh" as this one.

Hoping for a Season 3...!
