Ratings Roundup for the Week of March 23, 2025

Linear networks look at something called the C3 (commercial three day) ratings. Remember, networks care about the advertising. The show is just the carrot to get you to watch the ads. Advertisers want to know people are watching the ads, and if they aren't, then those advertisers will pull their funding. The C3s measure how often a show is viewed in the first three days it is available. The thinking is that this is the optimal time when people will watch the ads and not use other means, such as recording and fast forwarding, to skip them.

Civilians like us never get to see those numbers. However, the Final Overnights (which are the numbers I report) are a pretty close analogue.

PR departments love to put out press releases of how well a show does in its 7-day, 30-day, or streaming numbers, but the reality is, as far as decision-making goes, network execs only look at those C3s.

Oh! Thank you very much for all this information, I learned something today.

Not in any real way. They juggle back and forth between a few thousand viewers either way. Not enough to really make a difference. Neither has managed to pull even half a million viewers in the last few weeks. With FOX bringing back American Dad, I expect the Sunday lineup to be The Simpsons, Bob's Burgers, American Dad, and Family Guy

Do they only take the views on Fox or they add what they make on Disney+ as well?

Considering how low its ratings have been and the fact that The Great North and Grimsburg were conspicuously absent from any renewal mention with the rest of the Sunday animated shows, I have the sneaking suspicion that neither of them will be back next season.

Didn't The Great North still did best than Grimsburg? They might have suffered from the lack of promo for them.
