Doctor Who: The Power of the Daleks

tvjjbj12 posted 11 days ago

Hello LadyShelley,

I found the episodes in Doctor Who (1963), Season 4, Episodes 9-14. I also found this Forum thread https://www.tvmaze.com/threads/1709/who-is-our-resident-doctor-who-expert from seven years ago where you and others discussed adding the series and it was. I am confused about why this will be deleted since the reasoning in the thread seemed sound then.

If deleted, we should not loose any data that could be transferred to the 1963 Doctor Who. I mean the episode summaries and images are information not in the 1963 series. Somehow the fact that the animated series was made should not be lost along with any other information I am overlooking. I do not know how to document it exactly within TVmaze protocols. Unfortunately, I do not have the time due to caring for my elderly sister. I just hate to see effort and research evaporate when this good history could somehow be transferred and documented in the 1963 episodes. Could JuanArango or TomSouthwell transfer what's important? The Edit Log show they did all the original work.

These are just my thoughts as a devoted TVmazer. Thanks for considering this and for all the work you do.

Joe

The two separate stories are scheduled for deletion because they are not new. The stories originally aired in the sixties and are listed with the original Doctor Who series:

https://www.tvmaze.com/episodes/67516/doctor-who-4x31-the-faceless-ones-part-one

https://www.tvmaze.com/episodes/67494/doctor-who-4x09-the-power-of-the-daleks-part-one

The episodes were animated for DVD release as the original footage remains lost, but the audio is the original audio. (and as was noted was also released years ago as audio CDs)

At issue with the conversation in the thread you found was how/if we should list a special screening of Power that BBC America aired before the DVD release. At the time we didn't have alternate lists for things.

Lotería Loca

It actually doesn't appear to have been fully cancelled... as per the press release:

LOTERÍA LOCA will air a special holiday episode in December (date to be announced) and additional episodes will return at a later date.

Changing it to 'Ended' does not appear to currently be correct, as it will be coming back at some point.

Copy & Paste Press Releases

From: tnt

| However, I'm not sure if it's ok to use the text from press releases we haven't received directly without link to the source. You'd better clear this with Shelley, just in case :)

Just checking in about using a press release from the web, word for word, without a link back to the release. If you use the link, I think, it only lets you use a snippet and not the whole body of the release therefore making users go to the network press site to read the full release. I'm cool either way but have to wonder what difference it will make if users go to Variety/Deadline/et al vs the networks sites ... either way they're leaving TVMaze. The link tnt and I are discussing is below ...

https://www.tvmaze.com/news/1210/i-know-this-much-is-true-hbo-limited-series-i-know-this-much-is-true-debut-moves-to-sunday-may-10

If need be, the section of new news "When news is originally reported by us - for example when publishing a press release that was sent to us - don't supply a URL but place the full article content as body." may need to be tweaked slightly to remove "that was sent to us" or adding clarification about release we find ourselves.

In a perfect world, I'd prefer users not leave the site at all. Reasons are:

1. Why send out users to competing sites (deadline, Variety, etc)?

But more importantly

2. The internet is ephemeral. A link that works this week probably won't work in a year. If we want to be an archive source we need to have the information in our database. That way we always have access to it.

As for press releases, If the release is on a network site, it is there for the press to use, which means we should be able to copy that text and paste it into our own editor.

I did a quick test of the News editor, and you are correct, if a link is present in the URL, the "body" content is not accessible. I'll need to talk to Jan and David about that and see if there is a way to note the source, but maintain all of the information.

I agree, but not a lawyer though do play one at the pub Fridays, we should be able to use the press release as is ... the other sites do sometimes and sometimes they rework it to add more context but either way they usually don't link back that I remember. (Futon doesn't)

If a link back is required, we could always at the end of the release add a notation such as (using news article in question) ...

The limited series is executive produced by Derek Cianfrance, Mark Ruffalo, Gregg Fienberg, Lynette Howell Taylor, Ben Browning, Glen Basner, Anya Epstein and Wally Lamb; Jamie Patricof co-executive produces.

Just letting you know, I haven't forgotten about this. I'm still waiting to hear back about possible changes the the News editor. :)

SilverSurfer posted 4 years ago

No problem. As a temp measure, if I happen to post a press release in the meantime, I'll add a link back as above at the very end of the body until we get a final decision.

Keep safe, stay calm, leave the mindless, blind panic to me! :)

Please Review My Work Teach'

I just added news about Better Call Saul and used the press release from AMC. This is my first shot at using a PR so was hoping you could take a boo and either heap praise or scorn upon my effort ... I don't think I did it right, I can't see the full press release but the system wouldn't let me post without a snippet. TiA

Looks good to me! Thanks for making the effort to find the press release!

SilverSurfer posted 4 years ago

Thanks for checking! I had a few extra minutes and thought I'd see how much extra time it took ... in this case it wasn't much longer at all. :)

I think the key I missed was do NOT include the URL when setting up an article with a press release. Just complete the Title, Snippet and Body ... just did The Young and the Restless and I think it turned out much better.

2017-2018 Renewed / Canceled

LadyShelley posted 6 years ago

Yes. Up Fronts are the week of May 7, so as each network finalizes schedules there will be two articles for each: one just a list of what's renewed and canceled and one with what their fall 2018 schedule will look like.
