Mercedes Lazaro

Mercedes Lazaro mourns the loss of her mother Maria and the end of her innocence. Dealing with father Victor's pain in addition to her own is difficult enough, but Mercedes must also confront the rollercoaster relationship with childhood love Danny Evans, the flirtations of handsome Cuban millionaire Antonio Rivas, and her yearnings as a young professional woman in 1959. Striving for a sense of identity, Mercedes is drawn to her Cuban roots and must navigate dangerous political waters as anti-Castro forces begin to arm and mobilize in Miami.
