Marshal Matt Dooley goes to Boot Hill in Elwood, KS, He admires the town and the peace that he's brought it. The only thing marring it is a roving gambler named Bret Maverick. In Wormwood, Bret is eating at the saloon with Kenneth P. Badger, who is talking about his work as an encyclopedia salesman.
