Steve Holland

Steve Holland was an American actor, best known for playing the titular character in Flash Gordon (1954-1955). He also appeared in Suspense (1951), Man Against Crime (1954), Robert Montgomery Presents (1955), Modern Romances (1955), and Brenner (1964).

He also worked as a model for artist James Bama, who used him as the prototype for "Doc Savage" in the cover illustrations for the novels in the '60s. Not only was he used as the face of Doc Savage, but he was the model for countless pulp detective novels and magazines for Dell Publishing in the 60's and 70's. For a time he was the most recognized male illustrated face in the industry.

He was born on January 8, 1925 in Washington State, and he died on May 10, 1997 in Humboldt County, California.
