Arch Whiting (real name Harold Joseph Archambault) was a native of Larchmont, N.Y. Before starring in "Run, Joe, Run" he had previously appeared on television in "Studio One," "Armstrong Circle Theater," "The Barbara Stanwyck Show" and "Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea" (he played the role of the radio engineer "Sparks".) Travel was Whiting s first love. A sense of wanderlust led the actor to become a film cameraman, traveling to Europe and Malaysia to work on such features as "Count Yorga," "Angels Die Hard" and several unreleased films. The actor was to Italy, England, Germany, Hong Kong and the Netherlands, but he liked Paris best by far. "Run, Joe Run" was Whiting's third big chance at stardom. His first almost-break came in 1957 in New York, when actors were being selected for the Broadway play "Tall Story." Whiting's second big chance came in 1959, with the short- lived TV series "Paradise Kid." Whiting had been selected for the starring role in the series. Then, at the last minute, he received a telephone call telling him that another actor had been selected over him for the role. "Paradise Kid" was a flop, said Whiting, but the star who was chosen over him soon got another crack at television, this time in the very popular series *Dr. Kildare." Arch Whiting had been passed over for Richard Chamberlain. Whiting tried again with "Run, Joe, Run," which brought him mixed results. His role was axed for the second season of the show. Whiting passed away in May 2007 in Black Mountain, North Carolina.
