Born in Richmond, Virginia Dub Taylor acquired his lifelong nickname when his friends began calling him 'W', then further shortened it to 'Dub'. He began as a vaudeville performer, playing the harmonica and the xylophone, which came in handy in his debut in the 1938 film You Can't Take It With You - as an untalented xylophone player. Achieving more than 250 credits over his acting career, he was a fixture of Westerns for over 60 years.
Dub Taylor died of congestive heart failure at the age of 87.
