‘Penny Dreadful: City of Angels’ Canceled After One Season at Showtime

“Penny Dreadful: City of Angels” has been canceled at Showtime. The final episode of the show’s first and only season aired on June 28. “Showtime has decided not to move forward with another season of ‘Penny Dreadful: City of Angels,'” Showtime said in a statement. “We would like to thank executive producers John Logan, Michael Aguilar and the entire cast and crew for their outstanding work on this project.”

Maria is the powerful matriarch of the Vega family, who will go to any lengths to protect her children from the dangerous world of 1938 social politics, as well as from the chilling supernatural forces invading their lives.

SHOWTIME has announced that Tony and Emmy winner Nathan Lane (The Producers) has joined PENNY DREADFUL: CITY OF ANGELS, the next chapter of the PENNY DREADFUL saga, in the role of Lewis Michener. A veteran officer in the LAPD, wise to the ways of the world and ruthless in pursuit of his goals, Lewis becomes the partner and mentor of young Tiago Vega (Daniel Zovatto).

Showtime's 'Penny Dreadful' Revival Casts Two Regulars

The new iteration of the series, subtitled City of Angels and described as a "spiritual descendant" of the original, added Johnathan Nieves and Jessica Garza as series regulars. The show is set in Los Angeles circa 1938 and centers on an LAPD detective, Tiago Vega (Daniel Zovatto), investigating a grisly murder that eventually becomes an epic story that reflects the rich history of Los Angeles.

LOS ANGELES – November 1, 2018 – SHOWTIME has announced the next chapter of the PENNY DREADFUL saga with PENNY DREADFUL: CITY OF ANGELS. John Logan, creator, writer and executive producer of the Emmy nominated series PENNY DREADFUL, will continue in those same roles. Joining him as an executive producer will be Michael Aguilar (KIDDING). Production is expected to begin in 2019. The announcement was made today by Gary Levine, President of Programming, Showtime Networks Inc.
