The Neighbors - Episode Guide

Marty Weaver just wants the best for his wife, Debbie, and their three kids. That's why he's moving them to Hidden Hills, New Jersey, a gated community complete with its own golf course. Marty is certain that their new home will be a dream come true. And then, they meet the neighbors.... aliens from the planet Zabvron -- and the Weavers are the first humans they've ever met.

After convincing the Bird-Kersees to let their kids try "human" school, the Weavers take them on their first excursion outside Hidden Hills - shopping for back-to-school clothes at the mall. They survived the trip to Earth, but will the mall be too much? Meanwhile, Debbie and Jackie have doubts about each other's true intentions.

Marty and Debbie decide to make plans with their human friends after Larry and Jackie have become too entangled in their daily lives. The Weavers do their best to un-invite the Bird-Kersees, explaining they're afraid their friends won't be accepting of the aliens. But that doesn't stop Larry and Jackie from crashing Marty's' poker night and Debbie's girls' night on the town -- with hilarious results.

Marty and Debbie prepare the Bird-Kersees for their kids' first day of human school. They're especially worried that little Dick Butkus will get picked on, but their anti-bullying advice backfires in ways they never anticipated. Meanwhile, Larry and Jackie are getting tired of the Weavers' endless parenting tips.

Since arriving on Earth, the aliens - led by the Bird-Kersees - have viewed Halloween as a threat and have set up a barrier at the gates of Hidden Hills to prevent children dressed in costumes from entering the community. The Weavers, on the other hand, are excited about their first Halloween in the suburbs and want to open the gates of the community to celebrate. They do their best to explain the ritual of trick-or-treating to the aliens. Meanwhile, Marty and Debbie's fears are realized when Amber, Max and Abby reject their family costume plans.

Jackie Joyner-Kersee tries her best to help as Debbie whips herself into a frenzy planning the perfect birthday for little Abby. Meanwhile Larry shadows Lenny at work for a day; and a smitten Reggie Jackson tries to find the perfect gift for Amber.

Marty and Debbie find out all the facts of alien love when Zabvronian mating season coincides with their wedding anniversary. Debbie longs for a little more romance in her marriage after she learns about the more cerebral Zabvronian way, while Jackie Joyner-Kersee is fascinated by humans' more physical approach. Meanwhile, a handsome jock invites Amber to a make-out party and she decides to go, with Reggie Jackson tagging along.

Debbie wants her family's first Thanksgiving at their new home to be different from Thanksgivings past, so she convinces Marty to un-invite his parents and decides to invite Larry, Jackie, Reggie and Dick over for the holiday instead. Unfortunately, despite his promise to Debbie, Marty caves to parental pressure and confirms his mother and father will be on hand for Turkey Day. Meanwhile, after learning the meaning of the holiday, Dick secretly invites Jackie's estranged sisters, Venus and Serena, to make an appearance. Thanksgiving Day is anything but normal with the crazy alien neighbors, alien and human in-laws, and the Weavers all under one roof.

The Weavers ask the Bird-Kersees to hide the multitude of Christmas gifts they've purchased for Amber, Max and Abby. But when Marty and Debbie are put off by their kids' entitled attitude towards the holiday, they decide to return all the gifts and put the money toward a family vacation where they can focus on the true meaning of the holiday. There's just one problem: Larry Bird has opened one of their gifts, spawning a frenzy of gift opening among the aliens and leaving the Weavers with no gifts and no way to pay for the trip. Can alien "Scrooge" Larry Bird save Christmas for the Weavers?

When Hidden Hills' beloved gardener, Juan, unexpectedly dies, the aliens are forced to deal with something totally foreign to them. Debbie and Marty struggle to explain that death is something that comes to all humans, eventually, but Larry Bird is determined to find a way to solve that little problem, starting with the recently departed Juan.

Larry Bird uses his experience as supreme leader to help Debbie navigate PTA politics, specifically officious president Linda. Meanwhile, Jackie tries to help Marty coach soccer, until her cutthroat competitive nature kicks in.

When the entire Weaver family gets sick, it forces the Bird-Kersees to confront something new and terrifying -- the common cold. The Bird-Kersees - especially Larry - can't understand why Debbie takes care of her family even though she is exposing herself to their cold. Having learned there is no cure for colds, Larry makes the community quarantine the Weaver house, but Reggie has other plans.

When the Weavers and Bird-Kersees chaperone Amber and Reggie's school dance, Marty, Debbie, Larry and Jackie find themselves in their own "high school" dramas. Debbie's attempt to re-create a romantic moment from her courtship with Marty backfires, and, Jackie is so fascinated with how Marty and Debbie met in high school, she believes the moment she met Larry was boring by comparison -- so she tries to change history.

When the Weavers and Bird-Kersees compete for membership in a brand-new, exclusive country club, they're forced to confront issues of class and race. Marty and Debbie become so obsessed with getting into the club that they blow off their alien neighbors and bring the kids to an open house for prospective members. When Larry and Jacki show up at the club unexpectedly, the results for both families are not what anyone had expected.

Debbie's relationship advice to Reggie Jackson about nerdy new girlfriend Giselle backfires badly, making things even more difficult for Jackie and Larry, who are having a hard time dealing with the fact Reggie even has a love life. Meanwhile, Amber resists Debbie's attempts to talk about her new boyfriend, handsome but dim jock Jeremy.

After Debbie fears she's lost her looks and Jackie discovers that on Earth she's considered a "10", they end up in Hell, a hip new club, hoping to feel a little more like desirable women and a little less like moms, in this episode that airs as part of ABC's Wednesday comedy Valentine's Day salute. Meanwhile, Marty and a deflated Larry Bird look to Amber to help them makeover their drab appearances.

Max makes it into the final round of the school spelling bee. When he finds himself going head to head with Dick Butkus, Larry and Reggie, who've become obsessed with winning an Oscar, decide to videotape the bee - and the competition between Max and Dick - hoping to take home the award for Best Documentary.

The Weavers and the Bird-Kersees unplug for a weekend of camping in the great outdoors, as Marty tries to prove he's a "manly man" like his dad, Dominick. Debbie and Jackie work secretly behind the scenes to make the trip a success for an oblivious Marty, but all bets are off when both families have a close encounter of the animal kind.

The Bird-Kersees take Marty up on his offer to teach them how to drive -- after all, they piloted a spaceship to Earth, how hard can driving be? Meanwhile, Amber refuses to let Marty teach her, a decision she soon regrets when she ends up with unconventional Driver's Ed teacher Ms. Porsche.

Increasingly comfortable exploring the world outside of their gated community, the Bird-Kersees ignore the Weavers' concerns and decide to go to into the city to see a Broadway show. Inspired by the experience, Larry decides to put on a musical of his own, which goes well until Dick literally missteps. Instead of going to Marty and Debbie for help, the Bird-Kersees risk exposing their true identities when they call 9-1-1.

Debbie is thrilled when a tough-minded businesswoman offers her a chance to revitalize her purse business. Jackie jumps in to help, but her negotiating skills work a little too well, and they're soon in way over their heads trying to produce an impossible number of purses.

The Weavers take the Bird-Kersees to Atlantic City, where Marty learns that Larry Bird not only counts cards, he can see through them, and Jackie admits that she's always wanted a human wedding. Meanwhile, Dick Butkus, in charge back home, gets an ominous call from his grandpa. Is it time for the Neighbors to return to Zabvron?

As the summer winds down, Amber and Reggie reveal to their families that they've been dating. Jackie calls for a family conference - in a newly revealed basement at the Bird-Kersee home - at which both families vote on whether or not the couple can stay together. Things approach fever pitch until Abby interrupts with a heartfelt speech about how Reggie is the only person to ever make Amber smile. Then, just as the families are about to embrace the relationship, an unexpected guest arrives to compete for Reggie's affections.

Larry sets out to pull an epic prank on the Weavers after they explain to him what April Fools' Day is. Meanwhile Reggie, with help from Jackie, tries to convince Amber that he doesn't have feelings for his Zabvronian soulmate.

Jackie and Debbie hit a newfound stride in their friendship, telling each other their most intimate secrets. But there's one thing Jackie won't tell her next door neighbor: ever since Larry's father cut the Joyner-Kersee family off financially, Jackie has been secretly working at the local Mexican restaurant. When Jackie sees an opportunity to get promoted to manager, she invites her boss over for dinner and gets more than she bargained for.

After a botched game night leaves Jackie doubting her and Debbie's friendship, they go for makeovers by Shirley at a salon that specializes in African American hair care - hairstyles ensue. Also in the episode, Amber and Reggie continue to explore their biological differences and bond over nature programming, while Dick's plan to get Marty in shape backfires and results in an injury that brings Larry face-to-face with the realities of Earth's healthcare system.

When Larry hears the story of Chanukah, he becomes instantly enamored with the holiday and announces that he wants to combine his two favorite holidays - Halloween and Chanukah - to create "Challoweenukah." When no one shows up for the first seven nights of the new holiday, Larry decides to publicize it by giving out candy to kids at the local playground, getting him in trouble with the police. Meanwhile, Marty and Debbie's arch-nemesis couple challenges them to a family Halloween costume contest.

As football season consumes the rest of the Weaver household, Debbie focuses on Amber's relationship with Reggie. With the help of Jackie, the mothers set up a secret romantic date for their eldest children. Meanwhile, Larry decides golf is a boring and pointless game and endeavors to replace the sport for the community with football, wardrobe and all.

Debbie creates and designs a unique purse and Jackie gets them booked onto "Shark Tank" to find an investor. When Larry joins them on the show, the outcome from their presentation is not what anyone of them - including the Sharks - expected. Meanwhile, Amber steps up to be Abby's choreographer for her big dance recital.

Following her experience in the Shark Tank, Debbie decides to attend a Business School, but before she can apply she must pass a qualifying exam. Thus, Marty steps up to help more around the house, while Dick becomes her tutor. Meanwhile, Amber and Reggie's relationship is put to the test after a new and improved Jane enrolls at their school.

Marty and Debbie are hoping for an uneventful Thanksgiving, but their hopes are dashed when Marty's father arrives with a suitcase and informs the family that, after fifty years of marriage, he and Marty's mother are getting divorced.....and, oh yeah, he's moving in. Jackie's parents arrive from Zabvron just in time to witness the fallout and learn about the peculiarities of human relationships.

When a water pipe bursts in the Weaver house, Mother Joyner and Father Kersee help the Weavers clean up the mess. Marty and Debbie are so eager to finally have the company of warm, supportive parents that they don't realize they're inadvertently causing a rift between Jackie and her parents. Will they ever be able to make up? Meanwhile, Larry steps up his job hunting to prove to Jackie's parents that he can get a job and support his family.

When Debbie oversteps and accidentally ruins Larry's surprise Christmas gift for Dick, Larry responds the only way he knows how: going way over the top for gifts to Debbie's kids. Meanwhile, thinking gifts are the emblem of how you truly feel about someone, Reggie and Amber both struggle with getting each other the perfect gift.

After the Bird-Kersee's are mugged, they become panicked about safety while living on Earth, so Debbie and Marty attempt to teach them how to protect themselves, and Larry decides to build a Panic Room... in Marty and Debbie's bedroom. Meanwhile, when Jane intrudes on a date night for Amber and Reggie, he must decide, once and for all, which girl he wants to be with.

Marty and Debbie are excited about their upcoming 25th high school reunion. Debbie has had quite a year since moving to Hidden Hills from Bayonne, but knows she will soon face her arch nemesis, the wealthy and beautiful Tina Giannulli. Likewise, Marty is excited his high school hair band, Motor Baut, has been asked to perform at the event, but his moment of glory is soon turned upside down in more than one way.

Debbie struggles with going back to school and the advances of a flirtatious professor, while Marty is at home with Amber, mourning her relationship with Reggie. Meanwhile, Larry & Reggie are emotional wrecks as their Zabvronian male cycles have synchronized, and Dick is going through the "terrible tens".

When she hosts her college study group at home, Debbie's maternal instincts kick in and she can't help herself from being more of a mom than a peer with the other students. Later, Larry experiences jealousy for the very first time after visiting Jackie at work while Amber and Reggie make an important decision about their relationship.

Debbie finally joins a popular social media outlet and starts friending her old friends from Bayonne. Because she and Marty have lost touch, the Weavers decide to throw an Oscar party and invite everyone to reconnect. When the Bird-Kersees hear about the festivities, they decide to make themselves indispensable to the Weavers by turning the house into the most lavish, over-the-top Oscar party.

Marty and Debbie are worried when Larry Bird tells them his Indian co-worker at the coffee shop has invited him to a traditional Indian wedding. Despite their pleas, Larry decides to attend without their approval and he and Jackie get carried away when trying to come up with a wedding gift. After Larry does research on Indian weddings, he concludes all weddings take place in "Bollywood" and decides to give his friend a full scale Bollywood number.

Marty and Debbie are feeling like they are in a rut, so Marty plans a date night, but it turns out not exactly as Debbie envisioned it. Meanwhile, Dick falls madly in love with the new babysitter.

Debbie's estranged wild child mother invites the Weavers to come to her timeshare in San Diego and meet her newly adopted son - he's 10. Debbie agrees to the trip provided that Larry & Jackie come too as a buffer. Meanwhile, Marty tries to cure Abby of her fear of the ocean.

Marty and Debbie love their new Friday night bowling league - but Debbie is terrible and the other two teammates ask Marty to kick her off the team. Meanwhile, when word gets out that the alien colony is getting a little too Americanized, Larry's father sends an ominous figure to possibly take over the mission.

Larry's good-looking brother, DJ Jazzy Jeff, arrives in the community and tells everyone he is just there to visit his family, but in reality, he is secretly working with his father to bring everyone home to Zabvron. Will he succeed with their plan? Meanwhile, Amber has a new college boyfriend and finally confides in Debbie. Will she be able to keep Amber's confidence?

Larry learns that he is pregnant and makes a decision about returning home or staying with the rest of the Zabvronians. Meanwhile, Reggie must also decide if he wants to stay himself or turn human, and the families see two new visitors arriving at the neighborhood.
